On March 11, a delegation from the University of Nigeria visited our Institute led by the head of the UniversityVice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Arizechukwu Igwe.

The guests went on a tour around the Institute, and then participated in negotiations in the Academic Council hall. Pushkin Institute was represented by its Rector Natalia Trukhanovskaya, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of Pushkin Institute Natalia Grendo, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of Pushkin Institute Yuri Kopylov, Head of the Office of International Cooperation and Academic Mobility of Pushkin Institute Elena Sivryuk and interpreter Darya Velts.

“Welcome back to our institute! We are very glad that you have the opportunity to get to know Russia and Moscow not only in the warm season, but also in this frosty weather, although it is already spring on the calendar. We hope you are comfortable and not too cold. Our first meeting was more informational, but over the past period we were able to discuss our partnership, and thanks to this, today we will already discuss the details,” said Natalia Sergeevna.

In his response, Charles Arizechukwu Igwe expressed his gratitude to the rector for the invitation and announced an action plan for joint promoting the Russian language in Nigeria – in particular, advanced retraining of the staff and arranging internships for graduate students. The professor shared current problems (for example, the shortage of teachers and philologists) and suggested some options for solving them.

Natalia Sergeevna agreed with the vice-chancellor’s opinion about the Russian language: “It is not only a part of Russian philology, but also the language of science and business. Both future teachers and those who intend to work in a technical specialty study Russian. This is very much alike to our perception of the importance of mastering the Russian language as a criterion for a person’s success in the modern world. We work at different, but equally significant levels in popularizing the Russian language: this includes educational activities, an enlightening programs, and advanced training for teachers. We are ready to offer a wide range of programs with an emphasis on what is most important to you – an internship at Pushkin Institute or sending our teachers to your university. It is worth noting that we are working in both directions and the results are extremely effective.”

Natalia Sergeevna also invited Nigerian teachers of the Russian language to undergo an advanced retraining course under the Summer School program of Pushkin Institute, and offered students studying the Russian language an internship with us or even spend here an entire academic year.

The finale of the meeting was the signing of a cooperation agreement between Pushkin Institute and the University of Nigeria on teaching the Russian language, testing, advanced professional retraining, training testers, improving educational and methodological, scientific, staff and informational support, as well as the exchange of educational, scientific and innovative technologies.

We hope for a long-term and successful partnership!

February - 2024

On February 19, a round table dedicated to the International Mother Language Day was held at the Russia Today International Press Center. Activities and projects designed to support the Russian language abroad became the main topic of the event.

Tatyana Shlychkova, the Deputy Director of the Department for Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Relations, Special Coordinator of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the implementation of the state program on the Russian language, summed up the results of practical work to establish coordination of unified support for the Russian language abroad. She spoke about the development of the necessary tools and activities, in particular, road maps and educational projects, as well as their linking to specific countries.

The rector of Pushkin Institute Natalia Trukhanovskaya expressed her gratitude for the opportunity for the institute to participate in the formation and implementation of the state program for the Russian language: “We see that the program has become one of the flexible mechanisms of work and funding channels, due to which the effectiveness of activities to promote Russian is greatly enhanced language both within the country and abroad.”

Natalia Sergeevna focused on the basic principles that are implemented in the projects of Pushkin Institute: “Speaking about the motivation for studying, we changed the form of the question – not “why?”, but “what for?”. Since the Russian language is one of the global world languages, its knowledge is a factor in the competitiveness of both individuals and businesses both in the CIS and abroad. As for effective mechanisms, a year ago I would confidently answer that these are internships: the more foreign RFL teachers, schoolchildren, and students come to us, the better the knowledge of the Russian language, the deeper the acquaintance with our country and culture, the more positive it becomes the image of Russia abroad. But at the same time, there is a number of countries in which, for cultural or religious reasons and mentality, it is difficult for teachers to leave their homeland to come to us. Therefore, from 2023, on behalf of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and at the request of large corporations (for example, Rosatom), we have put into place the following mechanism: teachers of the Pushkin Institute travel abroad and teach Russian there for a long time. This is extremely effective, which was recently confirmed by the rector of Samarkand State University, who personally expressed a great desire to send our employees to his university. Another effective mechanism for both young people and experienced teachers is bilateral exchange. It is very important when our future teachers of Russian as a foreign language – undergraduates, graduate students of the institute – have the opportunity to intern in foreign countries, gain experience and communicate with students in foreign audiences.”

Vadim Zaichikov, the head of the education and science department of Rossotrudnichestvo, presented the areas of activity: the development of a network of Russian houses in 60 countries around the world, which became the basis for courses of Russian as a foreign and non-native language, competitive selection of foreign students to study in Russia and volunteers for foreign internships, holding events to popularize science, creating high-tech classes and modern textbooks.

Andrey Kibrik, the director of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, presented a program for the preservation and revival of the languages of the indigenous peoples of Russia, listed problematic factors that are worth paying attention to (the difference between language and dialect, violation of intergenerational transmission of the native language, globalization) and proposed a number of corrective measures: increasing the prestige of minority languages through the media, creating a unified concept of state language policy.

During the discussion, experts identified priority tasks for supporting and promoting the Russian language abroad and exchanged views on the prospects for higher education in the field of Russian studies.

In 2014, we arranged a separate Public Council of the Basic Organization: it included Russian philologists, higher education teachers, and experts from the CIS countries. The renewed council had a meeting a year ago – on May 25, at the celebration of the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture: within the framework of the III Kostomarov Forum, a number of recommendations were adopted, which we are trying to voice and popularize via all important platforms. We draw attention to the pragmatic function of language as an effective tool for interethnic communication, cultural diplomacy, competitiveness in the labor market and the preservation of our common historical memory in the Commonwealth space.”

Natalia Sergeevna noted the importance of cooperation in the educational and educational spheres in particular: “In our case, academic exchange is a two-way street: not only do they come to us for an internships, but also our students do internships in the CIS countries. For example, currently there is an intern from Uzbekistan and soon master’s students of Pushkin Institute will go to a university in Tashkent for a whole month.”

The rector of Pushkin Institute emphasized the need to develop programs to support the study of the Russian language, literature, interaction with the professional community, and also drew the attention of the participants to special partnership cooperation projects, especially during the year of the 225th anniversary of A.S. Pushkin: “Our institute has already begun to hold a series of joint events with the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay, designed for two years: in 2024 they are associated with the anniversary of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, and in 2025 – with the 180th anniversary of the Kazakh writer Abay Kunanbayev».

Recommendations, based on the results of the hearings, will be prepared for executive authorities and interested organizations on the development of cooperation in the CIS.

On January 29, the international expert session “Russia-Asia: Cultural and humanitarian dimension of cooperation” was held at our institute.

The event was opened by Natalia Trukhanovskaya, the Rector of Pushkin Institute.

“I am very glad that the presentation of the company “Pro.Asia” has gathered so many professional colleagues! I am very glad that our institute, the flagship university for the Russian language promotion, is beginning to consider other formats of work, that we are not focusing only on the state segment, but are seriously engaged in social and professional work. I hope that by sharing valuable experience, knowledge and competencies, we will be able to take our common job of spreading the Russian language in the countries of the East to a new level! I would like to draw the attention of my colleagues to the fact that it is worth thinking not only about the content of the mechanisms and tools that are used to achieve the expected result, but also about the form of implementation of the final product in a particular country. These can be new educational programs and projects, media forums, teleconferences, as well as festive events, Olympiads, television projects, programs or lessons. In addition, in 2024, we celebrate the 225th anniversary of the birth of A. S. Pushkin. Pushkin’s name and anniversary date can be used to promote projects in foreign countries. These events are simply doomed to success because of the media image of the “sun of the Russian poetry”! I sincerely wish the organization “Pro.Asia” to have a great start and fruitful years of work! I hope for our further long–term cooperation!”, – said Natalia Sergeevna.

Alevtina Koldunova, Executive Director of ANO “Pro.Asia”, gave a speech in response, expressing gratitude to our institute for the opportunity to present the company and all speakers for presenting their projects: “It is a great honor for us to hold the first meeting at Pushkin Institute! Yuri Kopylov, the Head of the Department of International Cooperation at Pushkin Institute, moderated the session. In his speech, Yuri Viktorovich presented the main visions of Pushkin Institute on the study of the Russian language abroad, the results of scientific research and practical work, a list of countries showing the greatest interest in studying the Russian language, possible promising areas for further international activities.

After that the speakers discussed the prospects for expanding the sphere of the Russian language using in the countries of Southeast Asia and reviewed in detail the information on the work strategy presented by the company “Pro.Asia”.

Alexander Radkov, the Head of the Russian House in Laos, spoke about the state of the Russian language in the People’s Democratic Republic, the main problems of its learning and teaching and positive developments (the inclusion of the Russian language in the school system, its learning in prestigious schools, the appearance of classes of the Russian language). The possibility of creating lessons for the program “Learning the Russian language” on television and on social networks to reach a larger audience attracted audience the most.

Thi Thu Dat Nguyen, the Head of the Hanoi branch of Pushkin Institute, spoke about the state of the Russian language in Vietnam, the gradual decline in interest in its learnig and suggested solutions to this problem – holding scientific conferences, courses, Olympiads, competitions.

Lana Ravandi-Fadai, the Head of the Center of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Science “Oriental Cultural Center”, spoke about the Institute’s projects on the countries of the East and educational and humanitarian relations between Russia and Iran.

On January 25, Pushkin Institute students participated in a flashmob with flags of Moscow universities, which took place in the Central Park of Culture and Leisure named after M. Gorky. The flag of our institute was presented by Valeria Oshans and Daria Kucheneva.

The Student Day program was very eventful! In addition to the flashmob, there was an SMM marathon and a concert with performances by such famous artists as MOT and MakSim.

Our foreign students from Congo, Mali and Syria have mastered a new Russian pastime – ice skating. They had a good time and experienced a lot of positive emotions!

In the summer of 2023, Cuban Russian language teachers completed an internship at Pushkin Institute. The experience turned out to be so interesting and useful that as part of a joint project with Southern Federal University 8 Cuban specialists attended advanced training in our Institute according to the programs: “The practical course of the RFL: from the language to the culture” and “Russian as a foreign language in the context of modern pedagogical technologies” from November to December.

Our guests studied peculiarities of the Russian phonetics and other features of the Russian language. They have got acquainted with the specifics of learning in a digital environment, and also watched the work of the professors of Pushkin Institute.

The program was more than classes. The trainees spent their free time usefully and visited the iconic places of the capital – the Moscow Kremlin and the Tretyakovskaya Gallery.

Among the students there were students of our long–time partner, the University of Havana. Sailí de las Mercedes Cruz Cáceres, a major degree student of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, shared her impressions of the internship and expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to visit Moscow:

“I am sure that I will continue to grow and develop professionally and personally because of the lessons that I have learned, and I will use all the methods and techniques shared by the professors of Pushkin Institute in my work.”

We are waiting for new interns!

Dear students!

We remind you how to behave in case of a fire.

– Try to remember the route to the exit, paying attention to the location of the main and emergency exits, while being in a public place.

– Study the evacuation plan in case of an emergency, the direction and number of paths, the location of stairwells.

– If you hear the scream “Fire!”, do not panic! Assess the situation, make sure there is a real danger, find out where it comes from, then calmly take measures to save yourself, moving in the opposite direction from the source of the emergency.

– When there is smoke in the room and there is no light, move by holding on to the walls, handrails. Breathe through a handkerchief, a sleeve. When you feel the temperature rise around you, turn back – you have approached the danger zone!

– If you are in an overcrowded room, try to protect your sides from squeezing: bend your arms at the elbows and press them to your sides, clenching your fists. Tilt the body back and try to restrain the pressure with your back, freeing up space in front and moving slowly as much as possible. Help those who fell to get up. If you fell, try to get on one knee with one foot and, leaning on the floor with your hands, push off sharply with the other foot and pull to make your body straight.

– If there are many floors, do not try to use the elevators – go down the stairs! If due to thick smoke, high temperature and fire you cannot go out into the corridor or onto the stairs, immediately return back to the room, close the door tightly behind you and plug all the cracks in it with wet cloth, as well as the ventilation holes.

– Don’t give in to the urge to jump out of a window above the second floor! If it is impossible to go outside, stay in the rooms unoccupied by fire and by any means (voice, noise, light) signal your location and stay in one place, waiting for the help of firefighters.

– Once in a safe place, by any means available, inform about the emergency situation by calling the emergency telephone number 112. If possible, provide assistance to the victims – take them to fresh air, unbutton their clothes and call an ambulance.

We sincerely wish you not to find yourself in situations in which this memo may be needed!

We wish all the best for you! Take care of yourself!

On the New Year holidays eve we remind you about fire safety measures.
It is forbidden:
– To use pyrotechnic products at the institute, use open fire (torches, candles), arrange fireworks and other lighting effects that can lead to a fire.
– To place various objects on evacuation routes and near evacuation exits and block passages and approaches to fire extinguishing facilities.
– To use celluloid toys, fabrics, cotton wool and other flammable materials that are not treated with a flame retardant for decorating the Christmas tree, decorating rooms, making fancy costumes.
– To fill the room with people in excess of the established norm.
– To use homemade electric garlands, color musical installations, devices for rotating Christmas trees, etc.
– To use electrical wires with damaged insulation, faulty sockets, switches, etc.; leave electrical cables with uninsulated ends under voltage; tie, twist and pull electrical wires; hang lamps (except for open lamps) on wires; remove glass caps from closed-type lamps.
– To use electric heating appliances (iron, kettle, tile) in the dorm rooms. There are specially designated rooms for this!

A thematic lesson “Russian cuisine” was held for students of the Russian-Vietnamese Tropical Research and Technology Center.

Each of the 5 groups chose a dish they liked, cooked it according to a traditional Russian recipe and made a small presentation of it. As it turned out, one of the most popular and favorite dishes is pancakes.

The students were able to demonstrate not only their culinary talents and skills in the design of dishes, but also excellent mastering the Russian language. The unusual lesson turned into a real celebration of gastronomic art and Russian culture, and the competent jury appreciated the efforts of each of the students.

The teachers of Pushkin Institute, Georgy Pokrovsky, Anna Sotnikova and Le Van An, were sincerely happy for their students.

Volunteers of the international educational program “Ambassadors of the Russian language in the world” traditionally went to Antalya on the eve of the New Year.

The ambassadors worked not only in private schools for the first time, but also at the Tez Tour mesleki teknik anadolu liseli State College, where learners are studying tourism. The ambassadors included the most recognizable symbols of Russian culture in the lesson: Bolshoi Theatre, Lake Baikal, paintings by I. Shishkin and V. Vasnetsov.

In the classroom, the students repeated the alphabet in a playful way, remembering familiar words (among them were not only “mom”, “cat” and “coffee”, but also “unicorn”, “valenki” and even “Lermontov”) and learning new ones. They learned how to talk about what they like and dislike, and tried to distinguish the symbols of Russia from the symbols of other countries. The most beloved and recognizable was the matryoshka doll, which participants were happy to draw, and someone even gave her a Russian name!

This year, the activity of ambassadors extends to the level of universities. The first of them was the Literature Faculty of Akdeniz University. The volunteers met with the students, talked about the Program and held an interactive lecture, which included a game about Russia.

The expedition was arranged by Pushkin Institute with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

On December 21, international students of Pushkin Institute celebrated the upcoming holiday.

According to the great annual tradition, they were visited by Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden. This year, the roles were played by Russian students of the Philological Faculty, Dmitry Krasyuk and Lyubov Popova. Santa Claus gave students a festive mood, smiles, joy, as well as Russian sweets!

Foreigners have also prepared for the arrival of fabulous guests. They sang songs, read poetry and wished their friends and teachers Happy New Year in Russian. And the students also wrote letters to Santa Claus, in which they shared their most cherished desires, including asking for help in learning the Russian language.

The holiday was fun and authentic!

We are thankful to Anna Bychkova, the Deputy Dean for Educational Work, for preparing this wonderful event.

We inform you that in order to ensure the safety of employees and students, the rules of the access and on-site security system of our Institute are changing.

This applies primarily to restricting the access of delivery services to the Institute building: now they must wait outside until the arrival of customer! The only exceptions are delivering letters, invoices and other printed correspondence – they have the right to access the main entrance.

It is also prohibited to bring weapons, ammunition, drugs and dangerous substances to the territory of the Institute, which may be involved in illegal acts and create a security threat.

Security staff have the right to demand the contents of hand luggage (bags, packages, closed, bulky and suspicious items) for inspection. In case of refusal, the guard may call law enforcement authorities to clarify the circumstances.

The experts of our Institute chose “neural network” as the word of the year. The breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence and the high achievements of generative models have really excited the society. AI capabilities have been the focus of science, education, art, business, law, and journalism. Everyone could work with different models and form their own opinion about their advantages and disadvantages. Neural networks such as ChatGPT, YaGPT, Kandinsky, Shedevrum, MidJourney, DeepL, MyHeritage, etc. were widely used.

In 2023, the word “neural network” was included in the Spelling academic resource “Academos”. It means that its frequency in mass media texts has exceeded the level after which the word is codificated.

A two-step methodology was used at Pushkin Institute to determine the word of the year. At the first stage, the specialists formed a list of possible words. In addition to the word “neural network”, it includes artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, import substitution, CIS, borrowing, teacher, mentor, volunteer. At the second stage, the frequency of usage was fixated using tools such as Wordstat, Google Trends and Medialogy.

According to Wordstat and Google Trends services, the word neural network has been entered into the search bar about 4 million times in the last month alone. The activation of the word occurs at the end of 2022, when the GPT chatbot was released. From February 2023 to the present moment, the frequency of use of the word has been at a consistently high level.

Appealing to the Medialogy resource showed that in 2023 there were more than 100 thousand messages with the word “neural network” in the media and social networks. The frequency of use of the word has tripled in a year!

It’s amusing, that in the Russian–speaking segment, the “neural network” confidently defeats its closest competitor – the phrase “artificial intelligence” and the abbreviation AI.

According to experts of Pushkin Institute, the word neural network corresponds to the status of the word of the year in many ways. Firstly, there is an actual, socially significant and resonant phenomenon behind it. Secondly, it reflects the latest achievements of scientific and technological progress. Thirdly, it is distinguished by a significant increase in usage.

On November 30, Pushkin Institute hosted the first meeting of the project for students from Russia, Vietnam, China, Congo, Mali and Syria.

Russian traditions of hospitality became the main topic of the discussion. The meeting was decorated with a samovar, which helped the participants to get warm with hot tea. Some foreigners saw this symbol of Russian cuisine for the first time, and students from China noted that it looked like Chinese hogo.

Students spoke about tea traditions, various types of treats, learned new words and expressions, got acquainted with folk crafts (Zhostovo, Palekh, Gzhel, Khokhloma) and learned about their features.

Representatives of the autonomous non-profit organization “Development of Tourism and Hospitality in the modern world” arranged meeting the traditions of hospitality within the project “Cultural Workshop “Comprehending Russia”, implemented with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund.

On November 30, volunteers of the “Ambassadors of the Russian Language in the World” program met with Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Olga Viktorovna greeted the ambassadors and noted their excellent work: “I want to say thank you to Pushkin Institute and personally the Rector Natalia Sergeevna Trukhanovskaya! Next year is special – the 225th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin and the Year of Volunteer in the CIS countries. Volunteering comes from the soul, it’s the willingness to help, to give what you have. Being a volunteer of the Russian language program is not an easy but an honorable mission: to bring Russian culture to people and encourage them to fall in love with it. Language is a bridge that facilitates communication and unites people of different cultures. Thank you so much for helping our country – you spread the Russian language all over the world, which is extremely important for Russia in this difficult time.”

Svetlana Ulyanova, program Manager, Director of the Center for External Communications and Development of Youth Programs, spoke about the expeditions of the educational program and the participants – active young people from all over Russia from 18 to 35 years old.

Then the floor was given to the volunteers themselves. The current ambassadors of the Russian language spoke about their experience of participating in educational and enlightening expeditions and ways of how the Program helps them in their professional development. “«Ambassadors of the Russian Language in the World» is an incredibly kind and sincere story that lights a spark of interest in the Russian language and Russian culture among children and adults of different parts of the world! The new participants shared their emotions from the past competitive selections and the educational program arranged for them by Pushkin Institute. Each expedition is a unique experience, with warm memories and a thousand burning eyes of students who are ready to hug you!”

Thanks to Olga Viktorovna for the warm welcome and sincere conversation!

The program has been implemented since 2015 with the constant support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Opening of the Pushkin Russian Language Office at Efrat University and the Cher Foundation with the support of Pushkin Institute has already given results.

Last week, a screening of the cartoon “Masha and the Bear” was arranged for children of Abidjan at the École Le Muguet school. This event allowed not only to make a day at school more interesting, but also to share the fairy tale, important for Russian culture. It was noted that meeting with these fictional characters brought a lot of positivity.

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Côte d’Ivoire, Alexey Saltykov, and his wife not only attended the screening, but also treated the participants real Russian pancakes of their own making.

We are hoping for further arranging such meetings!

The International Research Conference “Сutting-edge strategies in studying and teaching Russian as a foreign language in modern science and education” has started its work in Hanoi. The event is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Hanoi branch of the Pushkin State Russian Language. For two days, about 300 participants from Russia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia and Myanmar will be discussing modern teaching methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language.
Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, delivered a welcoming speech: “My Vietnamese colleagues and I are united in our desire to give a new impulse to the Hanoi branch of the Pushkin State Russian Language and activate its work, management and financing model. The widespread use of the Russian language in Vietnam is a great competitive advantage in the modern world. The creating joint educational and methodological materials has already begun, a number of which are presented at the conference. In addition, these days the expedition of the volunteer program “Ambassadors of the Russian language in the world” continues in Vietnam. I feel thankful to them and to all the participants of the conference for their commitment to the Russian language and Russian culture and wish them success in their work!”
The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by the rector of Pushkin Institute, Natalia Trukhanovskaya:
“I am very glad that this holiday is taking place today, because we have worked very hard to make it happen! The Russian side, represented by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Pushkin Institute, have made a great contribution to the development of Vietnamese Russian studies. I am happy to welcome the guests from Southeast Asian countries who have come to participate in the Hanoi Festival and the scientific conference on the Russian language, which will be held here for two days. We will exchange opinions and scientific achievements in the field of Russian philology.”
Natalia Sergeevna also focused on the Russian Language Olympiad for Vietnamese schoolchildren held in November:
“30 of its finalists came here to compete for the three main places and the main prize – a month of summer internship at Pushkin Institute. I witnessed myself how they passed the viva – free speaking, how worried they were! The Dictionary Day is celebrated in Russia on November 22 – it is the birthday of Vladimir Dahl. In honor of this wonderful philological holiday, the scientific department of our institute conducted a mystical adventure game “The Missing Lexicographer” for students.

This is the legend behind it: A long-long time ago there lived Magnus, the Great Lexicographer. He devoted his whole life to creating the best Dictionary in the world – the most complete and accurate, which, would reflect our beautiful and diverse world as a mirror. But the enemy of the Great Master, the evil and insidious Nihilist, was constantly messing with the Lexicographer. When the work on the Dictionary was almost completed, the terrible Nihilis put a dreadful spell on the Master, turning him into a ficus, and his life’s work into clods of earth.

The mission of the participants is to disenchant Magnus. In order to do this, they had to complete all the tasks, collect the keywords, and make a spell out of them, the strongest in the history of white magic.

Three teams took part in the quest. Their names were also lexicographical: “Dahl’s Team”, “Ushakov’s Team” and “Ozhegov’s Team”. Before the start of the adventure, the students compiled team mottos based on rhymes from famous literary works. Then they received the route sheets and set off on their way.

During the quest, the participants “made their way” through impassable swamps, solved a secret cipher, assembled a puzzle, laid out a dictionary solitaire, guessed dictionaries from fragments of them. The guys showed incredible ingenuity, resourcefulness and a high level of philological training.

After all the clever traps were passed, the teams composed a spell based on the collected keywords. They became lines from a poem by A.A. Akhmatova: “Gold is rusting and steel is decaying. // Marble crumbles – everything is ready for death. // Sadness is the strongest on earth // And the most durable is the royal Word.”

The scoring showed that the teams were literally very close to each other – they scored 43, 44 and 45 points. The winner was the “Ozhegov Team”.

At the end, the participants received prizes with the symbols of Pushkin Institute. Everyone came to the conclusion that the celebration of Dictionary Day was a success.

We suggest you complete one of the quest tasks! Look at the pictures and decipher the most famous Russian lexicographers.

On November 14, the Federation Council held parliamentary hearings on the topic “State policy in the field of preservation, protection and development of the Russian language: condition, problems and solutions”. They discussed issues of improving legal regulations in terms of state support of the Russian language and intensifying work to improve the language culture and literacy of Russian society.

The main issue was raising the status of Slavic universities in the CIS countries, cooperation between universities, the introduction of new formats of educational programs and the creation of conditions for the promoting the Russian language.

The Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko held the hearings. «Russian has a worldwide significance, great works have been written in it, important discoveries have been made, and the first spoken word in the space was also in Russian», reminded Valentina Ivanovna.

The main report was delivered by the Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov. He paid special attention to the issues of the Russian language proficiency of migrant children and changes in the order of educational activities, which gives schools the right to check students’ knowledge of the subject.

Pushkin Institute was represented at the hearings by its Rector Natalia Trukhanovskaya, who was accompanied by participants of the international volunteer program “Ambassadors of the Russian Language in the World”. Welcoming the audience, Natalia Sergeevna thanked the ambassadors for their brilliant work and noted the important role of Pushkin Institute as a flagship of educational and enlightening activities: “We are a platform unique in its mission, being both a higher educational institution and a leading center for spreading the Russian language around the world”.

The rector voiced the pain point problems for teaching Russian abroad and offered solutions to them: “Currently we are acting at the same pace. As Alice from Lewis Carroll’s work said, “we must run as fast as we can, just to stay in place,” and if we want to keep up with the time, “we must run twice as fast as that. In order to protect the interests of Russia, it is extremely necessary for us today to publish our textbooks in foreign countries!”.

According to Natalia Sergeevna, successful implementation of this task takes joint efforts, creating a common center for making quick and flexible decisions in order to “form a long-term strategy for promoting the Russian language in the world, which we need so much.”

The speech of the Pushkin Institute Rector made a great impression with its relevance and attracted the attention of representatives of the Federation Council.

The hearings were also attended by Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy, member of the Public Chamber Natalia Narochnitskaya, rectors of leading universities in Russia and CIS countries, teachers of secondary schools.

Pictures are available on the website of the Federation Council.

From 24 to 31 October, the pavilion of VDNH «Space and Aviation» hosts an educational week for teachers of Moscow and the Moscow region. This is the project of the Russian society «Knowledge», dedicated to the International exhibition-forum «Russia», which will be opened on November 4, 2023 and will last until April 12, 2024.

The agenda of the educational week:

– to present the achievements of Russia in various fields of economy and science over the last 20 years to teachers

– to teach students how to speak about them

– to show the connection of the school program with the contents of the exhibition

More than 3,500 teachers listen to lectures by opinion leaders on eight subjects (history, Russian language, literature, social science, physics, mathematics, biology, geography) and consider topical issues of education in science, art, socio-humanitarian.

Also, the participants undergo organizational and methodical preparation for conducting lessons-excursions on the topic «Achievements of Russia» within the framework of the upcoming International exhibition-forum «Russia».

Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society, opened the event with a lecture on history. He spoke to the audience (among whom were not only teachers, but also schoolchildren and students) about the appearance and significance for Russia of such a holiday as National Unity Day, about the events associated with it and the great personalities of the past.

After the lecture, Vladimir Rostislavovich shared information about the new history textbook, noting that it would be “the most verified and scientifically reliable textbook after the Soviet school.” He also stressed the great role and responsibility of the history teacher in the educational process.

The rector of Pushkin Institute, Natalia Trukhanovskaya, also participated in the event, alongside with Russian historian and political scientist Vardan Baghdasaryan, writer and public figure Oleg Roy, Director of the Moscow Education Center No. 109 Evgeny Yamburg, First Deputy Director General of the State Tretyakov Gallery Tatiana Sharshavitskaya and others.

Natalia Trukhanovskaya gave a speech on the topic “How to preserve the Russian language in a rapidly changing world?”. The special attention was paid to understanding what it is necessary to know the Russian language for today. The data of the “Index of global Competitiveness of the Russian language in the world-2023” (9th place in the number of speakers – 255 million people!) show that this is not just a school subject, but a way of uniting and accentuating civic identity of Russians, an instrument of intercultural communication in the CIS, conducting international business and promoting Russia and Russian education in the world.

“Truly mastering the Russian language is the key to our common well-being, as well as the key to the professional career and success of each individual. The better you know your own language, the better you convey your thoughts – then people hear from you exactly what you say. There is a reason for common expression: “It’s not so important what you said, it’s important how you were heard.” In order to be heard correctly, you should have proper communication skills, and for this you need an excellent knowledge of the Russian language,” said Natalia Truhanovskaya. “And excellent knowledge begins with high–quality teaching at school.”

The speech of the rector of Pushkin Institute was listened with interest by the pedagogical audience. Natalia Sergeevna answered the teachers’ questions and wished them success in their professional activities, competent and responsive students.

At the 15th Congress of MAPRYAL, a panel discussion “Content of teaching the Russian language: how to respond to social orders” took place. A report on the Russian language as an effective tool for competitiveness in the labor market was made by Rector of Pushkin Institute Natalia Trukhanovskaya.

The rector explained why in the modern world you need to know the Russian language at a high level. Schoolchildren are no longer impressed by stories that this is the language of great writers – they can be offered an alternative and real factor in influencing their future.

For example, the Russian language will allow entrepreneurs from CIS countries to enter the markets of Russia and neighboring countries. For young people in our country, a good knowledge of the Russian language will be useful when finding a job: language and speech literacy are on the list of requirements for a wide variety of vacancies – even where higher education is not required.

“When we talk to young people, we say: “The Russian language is what is really important for your life.” – At the same time, we always emphasize that not only language literacy is important, but also speech literacy – that is, the ability to speak correctly in a specific situation. Anyone who speaks a language at a high level receives an undeniable competitive advantage in the future.”– noted Natalia Trukhanovskaya.

Evgeny Kapyev spoke about his career path, gave advice on choosing a place to work, listed competencies that are relevant today in the book market, and inspired students to participate in internships.

Our guest also met with Rector of Pushkin Institute Natalia Trukhanovskaya. They discussed possible cooperation, including organizing internships for students.

Answering questions from the audience, Kapyev named the best-selling genres of books and his favorite works that changed his life – not only business literature is on the list!

Evgeny also shared his opinion on what a good and popular writer should be, how to present yourself to a novice author, and what mistakes editors and writers make:

“The biggest mistake an author makes is not reading his competitors. “I have seen many times how detective authors used Daria Dontsova’s techniques, and now they are sold in large quantities.”

Debunking the myth about the ‘death’ of paper books in the digital era, Evgeny Kapyev said a phrase popular among book publishers: “E-books will soon be as valuable as vinyl”, hinting at the prevailing demand for paper-based knowledge media.

At the end of the meeting, the guest thanked everyone for fascinating questions and warm welcome.

The moderator was Irina Ryzhova.

Right now work  in the laboratory of cognitive and linguistic research of Pushkin Institute is humming: together with MAPRYAL, specialists are conducting a study of textbooks on Russian as a foreign language from all over the world. We’ve learned details of the project from researcher Antonina Laposhina.

According to Antonina, such study will help to assess a situation on the modern textbook market, identify scarce areas and current problems. The project also opens up opportunities for comparative research: what, for example, are the differences between textbooks of the Russian language published in Italy and Korea?

Currently, the project team has already collected textbooks from 61 countries around the world. Experts also announced a survey among teachers of the Russian language abroad (including those who had such experience in the past). Fill out the questionnaire by following the link.

Experts from Pushkin Institute will analyze textbooks in a number of ways: from the point of view of RFL methodology, presentation of sociocultural information about Russia and its comparison with native students’ culture, as well as from the perspective of corpus linguistics.

“Besides the analytical study itself, it seems to me extremely important that our institute will now collect, perhaps, the largest collection of samples of Russian as a foreign language textbooks from all over the world! This is a great opportunity for young professionals and our graduate students to draw on the senior colleagues’ experience in creating textbooks based on real examples”,– says Antonina Laposhina.

We talked about a variety of laboratory research in this post. There is a video!

On September 1, poet, essayist and prose writer Dmitry Vodennikov is going to congratulate students on the Day of Knowledge and the beginning of the academic year and giving a lecture on modern poetry.

Dmitry Vodennikov is the author of several books of poetry and the documentary novel “Hello, I Came to Say Goodbye to You!”, laureate of “Book of a year” prize in 2019 in nomination “Poetry of a year” and “Moscow account “ prize in 2003. In 1999, his collection of poems “Holiday” was shortlisted in Andrei Bely Prize and the Antibooker Prize. In 2007, Vodennikov was elected the king of poets at the Territory festival.

“Even at the institute, I noticed —  a common thing for Dostoevsky: the novel does not begin until a scandal breaks out. It’s like my poetry. You definitely have to say something nasty to make it work”, — says Dmitry Vodennikov.

Dmitry Borisovich graduated from the Department of Philology at MPGU, had been working at school for several years, but left because of a non-standard approach to teaching literature lessons. Then Vodennikov collaborated with leading newspapers and magazines, became the host of programs on Radio Russia, where he experimented with the synthesis of poetry and music.

“I am not creative. I’m waiting for poems, then I write them. The rest of time I experience life itself “, Vodennikov speaks about himself.

Little is known about the “king of poets”, he is a rather private person. At the meeting, you can not only see him, but also ask your questions.

This summer, the international camp “The First” was opened in Kyrgyzstan for children from the CIS countries who are learning Russian.

The missions of the camp “First” and the International Volunteer Program “Russian Language Ambassadors Abroad” are in tune and aimed at familiarizing children with Russian culture and the Russian language. On August 21, a meeting was held between Alexandra Olkhovskaya, methodologist of the Russian Language Ambassadors program,  and Lidia Dolgushina, curator of the camp.

The “First” is located very close — 500 m from the children’s camp “Zhalyn”. Therefore, the ambassadors held several classes for children in the new camp.

The acquaintance began with the volunteers’ brand show — playing the spoons. The children were told about the history of this musical instrument, about its relatives in different countries, and also about the fact that in 2018 the spoons found a new sound and became the main support for Russian athletes at the World Cup. The ambassadors also held a creative master class with children on making a Russian folk amulet “Horse-Fire”.

“I was pleasantly surprised that there are people who are directly involved in the popularization of the Russian language and are happy to spend summer days as volunteers. The children came out of the master classes happy! I have heard a lot of positive feedback. The guys-ambassadors are professionals in their field, found contact with children instantly, explained all actions clearly and accessible. I am sure that this is not our last meeting at the First camp,” Lydia Dolgushina shares her impressions.

The educational expedition of the volunteer program “Ambassadors of the Russian Language in the World” to the Kyrgyz Republic is being implemented by the Pushkin Institute with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Today we tell you about the Laboratory of Philological Research — the oldest scientific unit of the Pushkin Institute. Here they monitor the state of the Russian language, write dictionaries, study language typology, study the “Pushkin code”, study the category of politeness.

We asked Alexandra Olkhovskaya, head of the Laboratory of Philological Research, about the achievements of researchers and about the legend of Russian lexicography — Valery V. Morkovkin.

The laboratory was set up by the initiative of the Institute’s founder Vitaly G. Kostomarov and Lev A. Novikov, when  Pushkin Institute was only a scientific and methodological centre, and the laboratory was a sector of educational lexicography.

From 1978 to 2016, it was headed by V.V. Morkovkin, the founder of anthropocentric and educational lexicography. Valery Morkovkin believed that a lexicographer should develop a dictionary according to the needs of the user — like a tailor sews a suit by the standards of a client.

Under the guidance of the scientist, the first dictionary for foreigners was developed— “Educational dictionary of the compatibility of words of the Russian language” (1978). Another landmark work — “The Lexical basis of the Russian language” (1984) — is simultaneously a dictionary, a lexical minimum, a manual on vocabulary and a theoretical study. The work is addressed to methodologists and authors of Russian as a foreign language textbooks.

An important achievement of V. Morkovkin was the world’s first series of intelligible dictionaries of terms of economics, sociology, chemistry, biology and other fields. Thematic dictionaries for students of Russian as a foreign language are  the credit that also goes to the scientist.

The pinnacle of his lexicographic activity is the “Great Universal Dictionary of the Russian Language” (2016). Here you can find information about the pronunciation, meaning, grammatical characteristics of the word, synonyms and antonyms, compatibility, etymology, country background.

Today, the ideas of Valery Morkovkin live and develop in the projects of the laboratory — soon we will tell you more about them. Stay tuned for our updates!

We go on talking about the research activities in Pushkin Institute. Today we interviewed Maria Lebedeva, head of the Laboratory of Cognitive and Linguistic Research, a leading specialist in the field of designing digital educational resources in the Russian language.

Russian scientists’ mission is to develop the field of the Russian language teaching and education in the Russian language on an evidence—based basis. The laboratory works at the junction of different disciplines, which provides a 3D view of the problem. Researchers connect the knowledge of neurophysiology, computer science, psychology, linguistics.

Among the unusual scientific gadgets of the laboratory is an eye tracker, a device that allows you to track the direction of a person’s gaze. Using it, scientists analyse how a person reads text and views visual content on the screen. It allows you to learn more about reading in a digital environment and how to make it effective and interesting.

The results of the research are new efficient practices that methodologists introduce into the work of teachers. In addition, researchers collect data to make them available for all.

Maria Lebedeva spoke in more detail about the work of the laboratory in short videos. A video using an eytracker is also attached in this post. Later we will talk about the latest research of the laboratory and about projects that already comprise the discoveries of our scientists. Stay tuned to our updates!

“Russian Language Ambassadors Abroad” first shift in children’s camps in Kyrgyzstan goes on introducing children to the peculiarities of Russian culture, choosing formats available to children.

The volunteers organized a quest in which the participants had to show their team spirit, linguistic ingenuity and creativity.

The kids especially like to play spoons. In the Mayak camp, classes on this musical instrument are held daily. We are looking forward to the performance of the whole ensemble of lozhkars at the final concert.

The ambassadors also offer master classes on cross-cultural communication. At the end of classes, children receive memorable gifts.

The educational expedition of the volunteer program “Ambassadors of the Russian Language Abroad” to the Kyrgyz Republic is being carried out by Pushkin Institute with the support of the Ministry for Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

August 4, 2023 there was an online panel discussion “New academic year – new opportunities: should there be changes in approaches to learning Russian in Uzbekistan?”

Experts from Russia and Uzbekistan shared their opinions on a wide range of issues. Particularly they discussed the situation in teaching Russian and migration development.

Galina Kuptsova, Ph.D. (Pedagogy), Foundation Department Dean, Centre of Russian as a Foreign Language studies, took part in the discussion.

Ms. Kuptsova believes that the time when teaching Russian was based on the USSR methods and text-books is over. Such approaches meant excessive theory, orthography, punctuation, archaic lexis, but missed the result.

In May, we told about the meeting of representatives of our institute with the leadership of the University of Havana and students of the Department of Foreign Languages, where the Pushkin Institute Chair is located. Then an exchange of students and Russian language teachers was decided to arrange between Russia and Cuba.

As part of this program, the President of the National Career Commission, Professor Reina Rodriguez Cabrera of the University of Havana and the head of the Russian-Italian Department of the University of Havana Ilsa Soto Perez came to our Institute. They are undergoing a supplementary education program in Russian as a foreign language at the Center for Supplementary Education of Pushkin Institute.

Irina Zolkina, Chief Specialist of the Office of International Cooperation and Academic Mobility, met the guests and showed them about the academic building of our institute. The teachers were very enthusiastic about the “Russian World” classroom.

We wish our guests success in their studies and further work!

04.08.2023

On July 31, at the meeting with Edwige Yapo Tai (Efrat University), a representative of the Shareau company, we discussed the major areas of cooperation between our organizations. Russian language training and the issues of assessment and certification were among them.

Pushkin Institute was represented by Director of the Department of International Cooperation Yuri Kopylov, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation Ekaterina Atrashkevich and Chief Specialist of the Office of International Cooperation and Academic Mobility Irina Zolkina.

Russian Language Ambassadors in the World International volunteer program, the aim of which is to popularize the Russian language, culture and literature in Russia and abroad, aroused a particular interest of the guest.

Edwige Yapo Tai stressed that relations between Russia and Ivory Coast in the field of training qualified personnel are gradually reaching a new level. An additional incentive was the II Russia–Africa Summit, which was held in St. Petersburg from July 27 to 28, 2023.

The participants planned to sign cooperation agreements with Efrat University and Shareau Company, the first partners of the Pushkin Institute from West Africa

04.08.2023

On July 31, the final “shift” of Pushkin Institute’s Summer School started this year. We asked Galina Kuptsova, director of the Summer school, to tell about features of the programme.

Galina, what does Summer school offer?

G.K.: From year to year, the programme provides an opportunity for students from different countries, who are interested in the Russian language and culture, to come to Moscow and see Russia with their own eyes, enhance level of the Russian language, find new friends and just spend summer in an interesting way.

How are things going this year?

G.K.: For the third month now, representatives of more than thirty countries learn not only how to speak Russian well, but also they get a unique experience of being in the language environment on a daily basis. Maybe a proverb “It is better to see once, than hear a hundred times” exists in many languages of the world, but joyfully, this task has become a stimulus to action for our students.

How many students came to Summer School?

G.K.: This year more than 100 people from all over the world and from almost all continents. Some of them have realized an old dream – to see Red Square, others noted, that they feel “at home” here, others remembered, what Moscow was like five years ago, and were surprised, what it looks like now. Despite the fact, that Summer School takes place every year and for Pushkin Institute this project is traditional, habitual and even ordinary to some extent, we understand that for our students these are priceless memories for a lifetime, a new experience, vivid impressions, and probably a decisive step towards something big and meaningful.

Do Summer School teachers work with students outside the classroom walls?

G.K.: Certainly, teachers give impetus to the entire educational process, they have long moved from the native Russian speakers and academic mentors category to the category of educators, psychologists, assistants, friends, those, who are they asking about, returning to institute after many years.

What is the main difference between Summer School and other programmes of Pushkin Institute for studying Russian as a foreign language?

G.K.: Possibly the main difference is that summer is conducive to relaxation, adventures, acquiring new skills and implementation of various ideas and plans. With this attitude, people feel more open, sociable, relaxed and positive. Summer classes cover a variety of topics, unexpected opinions are expressed, listening and speaking skills are being developed naturally and easily, and motivation to speak in Russian is increasing and gaining momentum. Intensity of classes, attention to different aspects of the language, emphasis on Russian culture and dialogue of cultures are indispensable conditions for educational process at Pushkin Institute.

We thank Galina Kuptsova for the interesting conversation and invite everyone to Summer School in 2024!

03.08.2023

Today we will tell you about the tactile communication research laboratory, the most “touching” department of Pushkin Institute. We talked to researcher Ivan Skorokhodov about what scientists are doing here and what are the prospects for their work.

Tactile communication research is at the intersection of neuroscience, linguistics and psychology. Participation of philologists makes it possible to actively include a linguistic and cultural component: for example, one of the most striking areas is devoted to the perception of touch in different cultures.

Generally, it is not customary to discuss such topics in a number of cultures. For instance, at first a Chinese group considered such study indecent, but nevertheless they agreed to participate after an explanation. At the same time, students from other countries are more likely to tell scientists about the perception of touch in their cultures, Ivan noted.

Practical significance includes better training of teachers and psychologists, development of recommendations and methodological materials. Knowledge of the tactile side of communication will deepen analysis of non-verbal communication and will allow to work more effectively in different audiences.

The results of recent studies were presented by the laboratory staff at the Kostomarov Forum in May this year: https://clck.ru/34aoqb.

Soon we will tell you about the work of other laboratories of Pushkin Institute. Follow our updates!

03.08.2023

The guests were welcomed by Rector of the Pushkin Institute Natalia Trukhanovskaya, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Natalia Grendo, Director of the Department of International Cooperation Yuri Kopylov, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation Ekaterina Atrashkevich and Head of the Office of International Cooperation and Academic Mobility Elena Sivryuk.

Natalia Trukhanovskaya showed the guests about the Institute’s campus. The rector showed classrooms and the Russkiy Mir Room. The guests appreciated the capacity of the assembly hall, the comfort of the canteen. The compactness and convenience of the campus made a favorable impression.

Then the guests were accompanied to the rector’s office for a meeting on partnership issues, where they discussed issues related to the need to train teachers of the Russian language.

Natalya Trukhanovskaya spoke about the international programme “Ambassadors of the Russian Language in the World”, whose representatives travel to different countries and talk about the Russian language and culture in a playful way. Rector suggested organizing an expedition of volunteers to Congo.

The result of the discussion was the negotiation of the possibility of establishing a Russian language and literature Chair at Kalemie University. Pushkin Institute has an experience in running such chairs in Cuba, France, Vietnam and other countries, supervising teachers and providing the latest methods.

The rector of Kalemie University stated that the need for studying Russian in the republic is high, the university does not yet have a chair of the Russian language and that it can become a center for teaching the Russian language for teachers of all universities in Congo likewise with the chairs of Pushkin Institute in other countries. Setting up such a chair will be discussed with the Ministry of Higher Education of Congo.

In addition, he noted that knowledge of the Russian language will allow publishing research papers and bringing scientists’ activities of the republic on the international level.

“We are very pleased with the attention from Kalemie University and the desire to develop the Russian language in Congo. We hope that we will be able to implement all projects to promote the Russian language in the republic,” said Natalya Trukhanovskaya.

At the end of the meeting, the guests thanked the institute’s management for the warm welcome and noted that they hope for long and fruitful cooperation.

02.08.2023

From July 27 to July 28, 2023, the second Summit of Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum was held in St. Petersburg at the Convention and Exhibition Center “Expoforum”, which was attended by the rector of the Pushkin Institute, Natalia Trukhanovskaya, and Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Natalia Grendo.

The forum’s agenda included more than 40 panel sessions and thematic events on the crucial issues of interaction between Russia and African countries, including in the field of science and education.

The delegation of Pushkin Institute participated in the Plenary session chaired by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

“Today, about 35,000 students from Africa study at Russian universities, and this number is annually growing. The quota for education for Africans at the expense of the federal budget has increased two and a half times over three years, and for the next academic year it will amount to more than 4.7 thousand people,” the head of state said.

Vladimir Putin noted that training of qualified personnel has been and remains a traditional area of Russian-African cooperation.

Also within a framework of the forum, a session of the Russian Union of Rectors “Russia and Africa: Prospects for the Development of Interuniversity Cooperation” was held.

The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation addressed a greeting. He quoted former South African President Nelson Mandela: “Education is the greatest engine of personal development. By virtue of education a peasant’s daughter can become a doctor, a miner’s son can become the head of a mine, and a child of agricultural workers can become the president of a great nation,” said Valeriy Falkov.

At the session, speakers from Russia, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Congo discussed ways of developing scientific and educational cooperation between Russia and African countries, challenges of interaction and prospects, as well as demand for specialists in Africa.

Natalia Trukhanovskaya in her speech at the event emphasized that the Russian language is a great value itself, but at the same time, it is also the most important tool for obtaining another value – high-quality Russian education. High level of Russian language proficiency makes it possible to master courses in any professional field and, eventually, the possibility of increasing socio-economic well-being of both a person and the country of which he/she is a citizen. Pushkin Institute has been and remains the leader in developing methods and providing training for teaching Russian as a foreign language.

In continuation of the speeches of colleagues who mentioned the Goethe, Confucius, Cervantes Institutes as examples of successful promotion of other major world languages in the world, the rector of Pushkin Institute noted: “We advocate that considerable attention should be paid not only to training of visiting students, but also to continuous professional development of teachers who acquaint schoolchildren and adults in their countries with the Russian language. I can only welcome the setting up of new centers of the Russian language and the revival of the previously existing ones! I would be very glad to provide any assistance in the promotion of this work. Pushkin Institute brand could become a unified brand for our presence as the Russian language centers in African countries.”
